Online Shopping Lebanon
This project started around 2015, and I probably wrote that article 10 times since that time, but I never posted it, and here I am writing it again today.
Since that time, things have changed a lot on the Lebanese Online Market Scene. It’s funny, when I wrote that article the first time, online shopping in Lebanon constituted only a tiny part of the market, people were starting to buy products online, while today, a large portion of people buy mostly everything online, and the major offline shops and stores have created their online presence.
… Even more today with Covid (because we’re nearly one year into Covid today), we can say that 90% of shopping in Lebanon is taking place online.
A real breakthrough…
While reading my facebook and instagram feeds, I encounter all the time interesting ventures, and because I am curious by nature, I try to checkout what it is about, and I am often stunned to find out that this venture or that idea are a new online shopping Brand or product in Lebanon.
… A Flashback on when Online Shopping Lebanon started:
10 years ago, I started developing websites and doing search engine optimization. At that time, I created some shopping websites, or some sites that were meant to develop into shopping websites. At that time, my background was fully about online presence and not about shopping in itself, so I used to market my services online and at times promote some products that I didn’t relate to particularly, except that I could easily rank them in search engines, and thus easily generate leads and customers.
I noticed then that the Online Shoppers in Lebanon were very very limited. Nobody could ever get enough courage to make an online payment or even trust a business only available through a website or through web presence to ship the goods to him/her.
I used to get all the time questions like where you are located? How can we reach out? How can we see the product?
Actually, for many products, there is nothing to be seen, and this is what makes online shopping attractive. You know of a product, you know a brand, you know the quality, you order it, you get it without moving. Fullstop.
This is all about Online Shopping… This is how Amazon, ebay, etc. developed, and little by little, this is how Online Shopping in Lebanon developed, with some twists that are still of actuality today.
How can I trust a website to enter my credit card information?
A question that was a big issue for most every Lebanese Consumer.
A question that has taken another turn today with Bank Problems and the Economical Trouble currently in the market.
But in both cases, the question doesn’t really stand today because 90 if not 90 percent of commercial exchanges taking place for Online Businesses and Online Customers in Lebanon happen through the Cash on Delivery Service.

You’ve probably heard of Makhsoom, Ishtari, and lately Hicart, Zoodmall, etc.
These were or are the actors of the Online Shopping in Lebanon scene, in addition to 10s if not of 100s of others more or less specialized ventures.
Some only operate through Facebook or Instagram Shops. Some operate through their Facebook Pages, some newer operate through Whatsapp Groups, they are all very similar, and their objective is always the same. Sell Products Online in Lebanon.

The short answer is YES, this is what we obviously are. We are not hiding.
The sophisticated and really meaningful answer is that all Online Shopping Websites and Pages and Ventures available today, even when they offer good deals, products, etc. lack something very very important, and this is what at Online Shopping Lebanon we address:
